Meet Victoria, Graduate Ambassador
Petite and pretty, Victoria isn’t what you’d expect to meet when you learn she’s a Criminal Justice major but don’t let her appearance fool you – she’s very serious about earning her Master’s degree.
She became interested in this field after watching her parents work, both of whom have careers in criminal justice. In Victoria’s opinion, the criminal justice system is “opening up a lot more views” and she wants to be a part it.
Hailing from Deming, Victoria was first attracted to NMSU because it was a relatively close accredited institution. Once here, she says, she was glad she made the right choice. “I feel safe. It feels very homey. Everybody on campus seems to respect you… If you need help, people are there… It’s just a nice place to come to college. It’s very down to earth. I met my best friend here my first year at college… and we’ve been friends ever since.”
The first person in her family to earn a Bachelor’s degree, Victoria worked successfully in the business field for several years before deciding to return to school and trying something new. Because she’s familiar with how America’s court system operates, she felt confident that NMSU’s criminal justice program offered the preparation she was looking for. Once she obtains her Master’s degree, Victoria hopes to get a position with the F.B.I. or C.I.A..
