MEMORANDUM

Re:             Graduate Assistantship awards of $1,000 for Academic year

Thanks to the support of the President of New Mexico State University, Dr. Martin, the Graduate School will offer $1,000 awards to graduate assistants during the academic year.  The $1,000 awards will be paid to graduate assistants during the fall and spring semester ($500 per semester).  Students will receive the money in their bi-monthly pay checks.  Graduate assistants who graduate in the fall can be nominated for a $500 award.  The awards are for current graduate assistants that demonstrate outstanding service to NMSU.  

How to apply for the awards: 

Letter nominations from faculty must be submitted to the Graduate School.  Departments can nominate up to three of their best graduate assistants.  Please attach a copy of the students’ transcripts to the nomination letter.   An unofficial transcript can be obtained from the Registrar’s Office by the student.  There is no charge for an unofficial transcript at the Registrar’s Office of NMSU.   The Graduate School will not review nomination letters that do not have an attached transcript. 

1. Graduate Assistants must have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.2 or higher.
2. The candidate must be a graduate assistant who is engaged in the teaching or research mission of NMSU, and will continue as a graduate assistant during the year.  State and non-state supported graduate assistants can receive the award. 
3. Departments must indicate how the graduate assistant has contributed to the teaching and/or research mission of NMSU.

Nominations are due at the Graduate School by April 1.   Please provide a printed letter of nomination and transcripts for the student rather than an email nomination.  We will accept faxed nominations (fax number of the Graduate School 646-7721).   Please contact the Graduate School  if you have any questions: 646-5746 or lacey@nmsu.edu.
